George Lester McLean, 83, of Ipswich, formerly of Dover, NH, passed away Tuesday April 2, 2024, at home in the presence of his family after a long illness. Son of the late George L. McLean Sr. and Mary M. (Hadley) McLean, George was born and raised in Gloucester. He graduated from Gloucester High School in 1958. Upon graduation he immediately joined the United States Army and served until 1961. After an honorable discharge under the rank of Specialist 5th Class, he attended Salem State College and North Eastern University. He then went to work as a teller in the banking industry. He worked for many banks in different roles including VP of Seacoast Savings. He retired as VP of Family Bank in Allenstown, NH.

George loved being around the water, whether it was a tropical beach in Aruba taking in the sun with Deborah, or boating near a New England Beach by their home in New Hampshire. He was very fond of travelling, especially to a place that was nice a warm: Mexico, Barbados, the Dominican Republic to name a few. His favorite being the timeshare he and Deborah shared in Aruba.

George is survived by his loving wife Deborah E. (Tebo) McLean as well as; his sons Shawn and Kevin McLean of Rochester, NH, his grandchildren; Curtis, Camden, Tabatha and TJ McLean. He was predeceased by his daughter Jennifer and his grandson Nickolas.

A funeral Mass for George will be held on Thursday April 11 at 11:00 AM at Our Lady of Hope Parish, 1 Pineswamp Rd., Ipswich, MA followed by interment at Beechbrook Cemetery Gloucester. An hour of visitation will take place the same day from 9:30AM to 10:30AM at the Campbell Funeral Home, 6 High St. Ipswich, MA.
