Portsmouth spring track's big day; Seacoast tennis openers: high school roundup

DERRY — The Portsmouth High School girls outdoor track and field team kicked off the spring season in spectacular fashion, taking nine firs- place finishes in the Clippers' first meet of the season, defeating host Pinkerton Academy and Bishop Guertin.

Mariam Nada won the long jump (16 feet 11 inches), Maria Akalonu won the discus (93-1), Margaret Montplaisir won the javelin (93-8), Lily Jenkins won the 200 (26.06 seconds), Avery Timerman won the 400 (63.5), Mallory Baker won the 800 (2 minutes 36.53 seconds), Mia Scherr (5:40.94), Ava Schlosser won the triple jump (26-7.25) and the 4x400 relay team, with splits, Timerman (67.5), Scherr (69.0), Ella Carter (71.5) and Alexa Baryiames (67.9) for a total time of 4:36.33 was first place.

Portsmouth (101) scored more than Pinkerton (62.5) and Bishop Guertin (31.5) combined.

On the boys side, Josh Kelly won the 300 hurdles (44.75), and the 4x400 relay team of Ollie Fitzpatrick, Will Hart, Nico Ranalli and Theo Beattie (3:43.05) captured first place.

Pinkerton came in first (111.66), followed by Portsmouth (50.33) and Bishop Guertin (32).

WINDHAM — Sofie Gibson (No. 1, 8-1), Clea Gibson (No. 2, 8-3), Sofia Karageorgos (No. 3, 8-3), Kathryn Demarest (No. 4, 8-1), Siena Schaier (No. 5, 8-2), Jessica Li (No. 6, 8-3) all won in singles matches for Oyster River in this season opener Monday.

In doubles, Sofie Gibson and Demarest won 9-7 at No. 2, and Megan Zehetner and Rose Goldsmith won 8-2 at No. 3.

NORTH SUTTON — Alex Molda (No. 1) and Jack Smith (No.3) won singles matches for the Saints (0-1) in this Division III loss Monday.

Molda and Ryan Whiting won at No. 1 doubles and Nick Souther and John Kovacs won at No. 3 doubles for the Saints.

"I'm proud of how the team competed today," St. Thomas Aquinas head coach Adam Molda said. "We hung tough against a deep, experienced team. We proved we can compete with the best teams in the state."

PORTSMOUTH — No. 1 Stella Sebeny beat Sophia Jundi (8-3), No. 2 Mia Botnik beat Avery Porter (8-5), No. 3 Amelia Dumont beat Elyse White (8-1) and No. 4 Ava Sebeny beat Clara Daw (8-2) in their respective singles matches to lead Winnacunnet to this Division II win Tuesday.

In doubles, Stella Sebeny and Motnik beat Jundi and Porter (8-3), Dumont and Ava Sebeny beat White and Daw (8-6) and Amelia Shannon and Mazie Snell beat Maeve Honda and Sam Ruel (8-6) to sweep doubles for the Warriors.

Portsmouth's No. 5 Lindsay Lee beat Shannon (8-4) and No. 6 Anna Syphers in singles matches.

HAMPTON — AJ McLaughlin (No. 2, 8-3), Luke McLaughlin (No. 3, 8-5), Drew Berry (No. 4, 8-4) and Aidan Beck (No. 5, 8-1) all won their respective singles matches for Winnacunnet (1-0) in this Division II win Tuesday.

In doubles, AJ McLaughlin and Beck won 8-4 in No. 2 doubles, and Drew Berry and Greyson Belliveau won 8-3 in No. 3 doubles for the Warriors.

EXETER — Oliver Berardino (No. 1, 8-1), Ewan Simard (No. 2, 8-1), Nick Meyers (No. 3, 8-0), Owen Russell (No. 4, 8-0), Pavel Pazourek (No. 5, 8-0) and Michael Burke (No. 6, 8-0) all won in singles matches in this Division I win for the Blue Hawks (1-0) Tuesday.

Berardino and Simard won 8-1 at No. 1 doubles, Meyers and Russell won 8-0 at No. 2 doubles and Pazourek and Nick Rosa won 8-3 at No. 3 doubles to add to Exeter's tally.
