29 cats, kittens rescued by Pope Memorial Humane Society – Cocheco Valley. Help needed.

DOVER —  Pope Memorial Humane Society – Cocheco Valley is seeking donations to help care for 29 cats following a rescue Tuesday.

The cats, ranging from 2-day-old kittens to 2 years old, were saved from "an extremely cramped and hazardous living situation," according to Pope Memorial staff. The staff worked with a local animal control officer to take the cats.

The cats were neglected, scared, covered in dirt and in need of medical attention, according to Pope Memorial staff. There were two nursing mothers, one caring for five kittens and another for seven, and two more more expecting mothers.

"While we are grateful to have rescued these cats, the journey towards their recovery has just begun," remarked Niki D’Alessandro, community engagement coordinator at the shelter.
