UNH ousted in Hockey East quarterfinals by rival Maine; conclude season at 20-15-1

ORONO, Maine – Bradley Nadeau scored two goals and the University of Maine men's hockey team beat the University of New Hampshire, 5-0 on Saturday in a Hockey East quarterfinal game at Alfond Arena.

The Wildcats conclude their season at 20-15-1, while the Black Bears improve to 23-10-2 and advance to Friday's semifinal round at TD Garden.

It was the first 20-win season for UNH since the team won 20 games in the 2013-14 season

UNH junior goaltender Jakob Hellsten made 20 saves.

After a scoreless first period, the Black Bears took a 1-0 lead just 52 seconds after the opening faceoff of the second period when Josh Nadeau went on a breakaway and sent the puck glove side from the slot.

Maine extended its advantage to 2-0 when Ben Poisson knocked in a rebound off a shot by Josh Nadeau for the power play goal at 8:23.

The Black Bears made it a 3-0 contest at 15:07 when Bradley Nadeau fired a one-timer to the back of the net.

At 8:48 of the third period, Bradley Nadeau blasted a slapshot for his second goal of the game for a 4-0 advantage.

With 2:42 left in the third period, Nolan Renwick made it a 5-0 game.

Maine outshot UNH, 25-18, while the Wildcats went 0-1 on the power play and the Black Bears went 2-5.
